Cost of entry is the usual Art West $10 per entry.
Prize money for the competition is $500 for first prize with two $100 prizes for Highly Commended chosen by independent judge Kate Barry (Abstract Artist) and awarded at the Exhibition opening night function on Thursday March 18th 2021. The entered work must be an abstract. Abstract art is art that does not attempt to represent an accurate depiction of a visual reality but instead use shapes, colours, forms and gestural marks to achieve its effect. Your Abstract art entry can be based on an object, figure or landscape, where forms have been simplified or schematised. This also applies to art that uses forms, such as geometric shapes or gestural marks, which have no source at all in an external visual reality.
The term 'painting' is to be understood broadly. Any two-dimensional medium is acceptable including photography.
All artworks entered by the artist must be the original work and concept of the artist.
The entered artwork must be new (completed within the previous 12 months) and be the absolute property of the artist, and must not have been entered previously in any Art West competition.
The finished painting or photography artwork, including the frame, must be no larger than 125cm on the longest side and must be framed. A stretched canvas is considered framed.
Entries must be for sale. The artist shall indicate their sale price here on this form and the didactic. The usual Art West commission applies. The sale price indicated in the entry form shall apply and shall remain fixed for the duration of the exhibition.
All Prize Winning artworks are to remain on display in the gallery for the duration of the exhibition, including after purchase. Whereas all other sold artworks are able to be taken by the purchaser and the artist can replace the sold piece with a new artwork of similar size. This replacement artwork will not be eligible for 'The Peoples Choice' Prize.
