About The Gallery
In mid-2015 the Brisbane City Council encompassed one million people without a single Community Art Gallery to cater to the needs of established and emerging artists.
Our Patron Colin Williams considered a Community Gallery as critical to the cultural health of the area as any library, field or playground is to the intellectual and physical health of the community. Printing flyers, he distributed them around the Western suburbs; canvassing expressions of interest in pursuing the Community Gallery idea.
On 18 July 2015, an inaugural meeting was held in the Kenmore library with sixteen attendees where an action plan was formulated to carry the project forward.
Art West’s first group exhibition was held on 16 June 2016 to introduce Art West Community Gallery to the public. As interest in the concept and membership grew, so did the standard of the artworks with many successful exhibitions held since then. Every year Art West holds a major Art Prize
which attracts a very high calibre of entries and interest from the community.
Art West now has a quality gallery in the Kenmore Village Shopping Centre where exhibitions are changed every 6 weeks allowing the group to move into the future with confidence.
